Reus, 17th of October of 2017.
Today the program of the XII edition of Memorimage, Reus International Film Festival was presented. In the year of the Capital of Culture, Memorimage arrives with more novelties than ever. Professional Seminars and Meetings dedicated to archive will be celebrated and Teatre Bravium has been incorporated as a new headquarter. Furthermore, as Reus is the current capital of culture, access to the screenings will be free of cost and the activity Memorimage and wine, where participants will have to combine 5 wines with 5 documentaries, will be introduced, .

The opening film is the Chilean Adriana’s pact (Lisette Orozco), which narrates the emotional breakdown that affects the young director as clues begin to appear pointing at her aunt as a torturer from Pinochet’s secret police.

The Official Section will be composed by the films: Trapped in Japan, in which the director recreates the trip made by her journalist father around Japan during the 40’s decade; Spies on the sand. Target: Spain, an adventure film that shows how the allied forces considered invading Spain to vanquish Franco during the Second World War: and Guillem d’Efak, L’ànima negra de l’illa, which claims the life and figure of one of New Song’s most particular and charismatic poets and members.

In MemoriReus section, one can find productions from Tarragona demarcation, and among them, the film El periple (Mario Pons), which explains the isolation and block of the individual; and Baix a Mar (Maria Roig), a walk through the memories of Baix a Mar neighborhood of Torredembarra during the 20’s and 40’s decades.

Furthermore, there will be different special sessions out of competition such as Serrat, el noi del Poble Sec, which exposes the childhood and youth of the singer and songwriter; The Bomb, a shocking aesthetic and experimental film that gets the spectator into the disturbing reality of nuclear weapons and Disturbing the Peace, which narrates the effort of a group of Israeli and Palestinian citizens who want to fight for peace. One of the most special sessions will be King Kong (1933), a classic that we will recover for the Memorimage Vintage session.

In MemoriXics, a session dedicated to the youngest audience, kids will have the chance to do a Flipbook workshop (one of the first instruments to make cinema) before the screening of the comedy Duck Soup (Marx’s Brothers).

In the section MemoriJove, the 1.500 high school students already registered will enjoy Fragile, a reflection about how poverty affects four girls from different continents; Angry Inuk, where we will hear the voice of the Inuit people from Greenland; Free Lunch Society, which opens the debate of whether a basic universal income is possible and La Víctor, that will rediscover the writer Caterina Albert.

On the last place, and attending the cultural capital status, Memorimage wanted to defend the value of audiovisual heritage by selecting 3 short films recovered from the archives for the Closing Ceremony. One of them is an international premiere. During this ceremony, we will learn the winners of the 2017 Memorimage Awards.

This year Memorimage recovers, with the help of the Generalitat’s Department of Culture, the only Professional Seminar in the whole state centered in the archive and dedicated to all the archive and documentation professionals, which will happen in CIMIR.

The seminar will include the first meeting of television archive responsibles, where different methods of organization, work and resources management will be shared, and the Research and rights clearance Workshop with Elizabeth Klinck, a Canadian documentarist who has worked in numerous Emmys and Oscars winning films. It will be the first time that Elizabeth Klinck teach a workshop in Spain.

For the first time the festival will have the activity Memorimage and wine, a unique experience in which participants will have to combine 5 wines with 5 documentaries screened on the Festival, with the guidance of an expert sommelier and one of the programmers of the festival. The activity is free of cost and inscriptions to participate will open on the 19th of October.

On the other side, Memorimage suggests two workshops orientated to the general audience: How to make a documentary for those interested in telling a close story through a documentary and MobileDoc for those interested in narrating stories using a common and accessible technology.

Memorimage counts on the support of the Department of Culture of Generalitat de Catalunya and Diputació de Tarragona.

The twelfth edition of Memorimage – Reus International Film Festival, will be celebrated from the 8th to the 11th of November in Teatre Bartrina (main headquarter), Teatre Bravium (where some films will be screened), CIMIR (where is going to take place the Professional Seminar and workshops) and the Reus Museum (for the activity Memorimage and wine).

Memorimage is a festival exclusively centered in films that use archive image, with the purpose of recognizing the importance of recovery and conservation of audiovisual heritage, while valuing image as a key in the construction of individual and collective memory.
