A portrait of the rise and fall of Joseph Raymond McCarthy, one of the first “bad guys” of United States politics. Parallelisms with Donald Trump’s political trajectory are more than evident. Senator McCarthy became popular on TV and his dogmatic patriotism went crazy. He promoted a crusade of accusations and blacklists against suspects of being communists between 1950 and 1956. The panic arising from the witch-hunts and fear of communism became know as McCarthyism.
The film is the result of five years of investigation in international archives and combines original archive material with unpublished images; the excellent dramatization and testimonials involved offer a unique point of view of an historical figure.
